The Stratosphere Hotel and Casino is the northernmost major property on Las Vegas Boulevard (AKA the Las Vegas Strip.) This is one of the most recognizable places on the strip due to its tall, thin structure. The Stratosphere is the tallest structure in Las Vegas, the tallest observation tower in the United States, and the fifth tallest building in the US.

The hotel currently has just under 2,500 rooms including basic rooms, mini-suites, full size suites and the newly renovated Stratosphere select rooms. This hotel is moderately priced, with a basic room running around $60 on the weekend and less throughout the week. Special rates and discounts may be offered to players club members or through one of the major hotel discount websites such as Priceline or Expedia. Like other Vegas hotels, the Stratosphere’s prices vary depending on what events are in town.

The top of the Stratosphere offers several attractions that make it an interesting place to visit. There are two observation decks, a revolving restaurant called “Top of the World” and four exciting thrill rides. They are:

  • · The Big Shot gravity drop, the highest thrill ride in the world.
  • · The Insanity, is a spinning ride that goes out over the edge of the tower.
  • · SkyJump Las Vegas, is a bungee jumping-like ride that allows riders to jump from the tower attached to a high speed, descent wire.
  • · X-Scream is a rollercoaster which is the third highest thrill ride in the world.

The casino at the Stratosphere is 80,000 square feet and includes all of the expected games. There are thousands of exciting multiline penny slots, standard slot machines, video poker machines, a race and sports book, Stratosphere poker room, and more than 50 of the hottest table games, including Blackjack, Three Card Poker, Pai Gow Poker, Roulette, Craps, and Crapless Craps. The table games tend to have lower minimums than many of the casinos on the main area of the strip. This makes the Stratosphere a great place to play for gamblers on a budget.

The Stratosphere offers many dining choices, including something for everyone. The best known restaurant on the property is the Top of the World, which is a medium to high priced restaurant. They serve steak, seafood and many other surprising dishes. Entrees run around $40 to $70 per person and appetizers in the $15 to $20 range. A wide selection of wines rounds out the meal. Other dining choices on the property include a buffet, Roxy’s rock n’ roll diner, Fellini’s Italian Restaurant, and a poolside café.

There are two permanent shows at the Stratosphere, Bite is a sexy vampire themed musical and American Superstars an entertaining Vegas impersonator show. There are several bars and lounges located on the property, from poker bars on the casino floor up to the Air Bar on the 108th floor there is a place to party for everyone.

As you can see, the Stratosphere is a property that competes on most levels with the newest and biggest Vegas casinos. The location north of much of the action makes it less desirable for those who like to move around, however if you are renting a car or you like to spend your time in one casino this can be a great choice for your next Las Vegas casino stay. If you want more information about the hotel, you may consider reading trip reports from those who have stayed at the Stratosphere.
